Why We Use Horses
Having the chance to be on a horse takes the rider to a new and unexplored world, a world that is full of possibilities and hope.
As the legs of these beautiful animals become the legs of our riders, they are permitted a sense of freedom and acceptance seldom experienced elsewhere in their lives. A very special bond is established between horse and rider which encourages unconditional love, trust and feelings of self‐worth.
When riding a horse, the human body moves as if walking. This repetitive motion cannot be duplicated in any clinical setting. Our PATH, Intl. Registered therapeutic riding instructors combine riding skills‐based activities with lessons designed to enhance the physical, cognitive and emotional well‐being of our riders.
Additional benefits include increased muscle strength, postural control, coordination, improved memory and cognitive skills, improved ability to focus, increased balance and improved self‐esteem and self confidence. Clients typically participate in weekly lessons involving a certified instructor and trained volunteers.
